All about Sensory Integration

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a series of disorders that fall on some part of the autism spectrum.  These disorder all have one thing in common, they are all sensory processing disorders which require the use of sensory integration in order to help connect the sensory signals from the body to the brain. With the use of a sensory gym kids are able to improve their processing by gaining the stimulation needed to make better connections and develop above the current level of sensory processing.

Sensory integration using sensory gym activities involves using activities that children are both mastering and deficient with.  If the activity can do both it helps kids recognize they can indeed accomplish some of the activities they were unable to before.  Whether this means letting kids climb and play or use a variety of arts and crafts activities the idea is to help kids develop the skills they are going to need later in life through the use of the sensory gym and the equipment present at the location.

When kids are introduced to sensory gym activities they can enjoy the fun of playing at the gym and experience the sensory stimulation they need from the activities found at the gym.  Come see us at WRTS and let us help you find the right activities to improve your child’s sensory processing with some fun activities that are great for them.
